“Consumers need good information to make informed choices. They are often unaware of the hidden costs of ownership, including inevitable repairs or replacement. Consumers are aware of the impact buying “disposable” products has on their budgets and the environment, but haven’t been presented with many clear choices. Having the ability to know how repairable a product is will give consumers the information they need to buy products that fit their budgets, short and long term.
Having a Repairability Index will inevitably change buying habits. Manufacturers will gain an extraordinary opportunity to understand what their consumers want and need as a result. I couldn’t imagine a more market-driven strategy that results in the best outcomes for both consumers and manufacturers.”
