Seven new laws that go into effect in 2024
This January, seven laws go into effect that will reduce air and water pollution, increase consumer protections and cut waste.
Seven major policies go into effect starting January 1st.
Cleaning up our air:
- An additional $2,500 tax credit for purchasing an electric vehicle
- A 30% discount for electric lawn and garden equipment
Reducing water pollution and trash:
- A ban on PFAS ‘forever chemicals’ in some consumer products
- New standards for compostable products
- A ban on single-use plastic bags and polystyrene cups and containers
Protecting consumers:
- New tools to stop online websites from collecting your data
- Right to Repair protections for farmers and ranchers
“The new year brings new protections for the health, safety and well being for Coloradans and our communities,” said Danny Katz, CoPIRG Foundation executive director. “I want to thank the many legislators who sponsored these bills and Governor Polis for signing them. We’ve got a lot to celebrate in 2024.”
