As a part of our “Voices for Sustainable Fashion” collection, we have been gathering stories from students across the nation who are actively working to create positive change in the fashion industry.
The fashion industry accounts for 10% of our global carbon emissions–so needless to say, the industry has a massive environmental impact. Fast fashion only exacerbates this impact as they endlessly pump out cheap clothing to satisfy the quick-changing trends.
But Gen Z students are standing up and “saying no” to fast fashion. You can read the stories below of some of these students who are advocating for more sustainability in fashion.
After hearing from PIRG’s Waste is Out of Fashion Campaign Associate and Student PIRGs chapter leaders, you’ll be equipped with the resources, information, and motivation to be able to run a campaign on your own campus targeting fast fashion.
We have also created a great resource packet to help students organize successful events which you can view here.
As the Zero Waste Campaign Associate with WashPIRG, Kathryn is working on our Waste is Out of Fashion campaign. Kathryn lives near her family in Seattle where she enjoys exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest through skiing, kayaking and practicing her photography.
