Senator Ed Markey visits MASSPIRG Bottle Bill campaign staff

U.S. Senator Ed Markey visited the MASSPIRG canvass office on Friday Aug. 4, 2023, to share his thoughts about being the original sponsor of the Bottle Bill in Congress. He lauded the canvassers for their campaign work to update the MA law.

A bill pending in the MA Legislature  would expand the types of containers covered by the deposit to include water bottles, sports drinks, juices and more; and it would also raise the deposit from the 40+ year old amount of 5c, to a dime. MASSPIRG canvassers have been going door to door this summer mobilizing support for the bill’s passage.
