BGE customers tell PSC: No multi-year rate hike

Today we delivered comments to the Maryland Public Service Commission asking them to reject BGE’s proposed $602 million multi-year rate hike. Maryland AARP collected 1,100 comments in the last 24 hours alone opposing the rate hike.

In June, the Office of the People’s Counsel raised concerns that BGE’s proposal would lead to massive rate increases, reduce utility accountability, and overinvest in gas infrastructure. The People’s Counsel also called on the Public Service Commission to reject the inclusion of electrification in BGE’s rate case.

In August, the PSC ordered BGE to strike the so-called “electrification” program from the rate case and begin public hearings on the rest of the proposal.

We helped organize a public education, testified against the rate case and saw public opposition swell at the final hearing.

The PSC will make a ruling on the proposed rate hike by the end of the year.
