Patients have the right to find the prices of schedulable hospital services on hospital websites. If you shop for prices before you get care, you might be able to save money, or at least have a sense of how much your treatment will cost.
In order to find a price for health care services at a hospital, there are three basic steps:
Find the billing code that identifies the procedure you are planning.
Find the hospital price transparency tool on the hospital’s website and identify whether
it is a “price estimator” or “shoppable services list”.
Search for the billing code using the hospital’s price transparency tool, either a price estimator or a shoppable services list.
The guide provides a step-by-step walkthrough for each of these steps, accompanied by screenshots and examples. Download the full guide on the left side of this page.
