On October 3rd, 2023, CoPIRG submitted the following statement to Colorado’s Air Quality Control Commission (AQCC):

Dear members of the AQCC:

On behalf of our members across Colorado, we are calling for the adoption of the Colorado Clean Cars rule to accelerate the pace of electric vehicle sales and increase EV choice and quality for consumers.

Working with our partners from GreenCorps, we spent three days talking to businesses and individuals about the importance of this upcoming rule. We collected 814 individual petitions, including 332 photo petitions (please see the attached document with a sample of these) and 129 business sign-ons to the following:

Dear Governor Polis,

The Colorado Clean Cars Initiative will bring more EVs into Colorado’s marketplace and significantly reduce pollution from the transportation sector. I urge you to pass the full Colorado Clean Cars rule through 2035 to maximize benefits for consumers and clean air here in Colorado.

Sincerely,

Additionally, our outreach generated 69 calls to Governor Polis and submitted 9 letters to the editor  in support of the full rule. The scope and diversity of our petition shows the broad level of support found across Colorado for accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles as a means to cleaner air and healthier communities.

Colorado consumers and businesses alike deserve the best quality and best choice as new EVs come on the market. We strongly encourage the state to adopt the full ACC II in 2023 and maximize benefits both for consumers and air quality here in Colorado.

Thank you for your time and consideration of this important rule.
