Top Ten Ways the CFPB Can Help You

See our new resource about the top ten ways the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is helping consumers.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) was established in the wake of the Wall Street-induced financial collapse. It is the first federal financial agency with just one job: protecting consumers. Since its formation in 2011, the CFPB has proven itself a worthy cop on the financial beat.

Yet too many people may still be unsure how to get the most out of this new federal agency.

OSPIRG Foundation just released a new list of resources available to consumers from the CFPB called “Top Ten Ways the CFPB Can Help You” to help get the word out about this new consumer watchdog.

On the CFPB website you can file complaints about financial products and get money returned or bad practices stopped. You can get answers to questions or tell your story about a financial problem. And you can use their resources to investigate the cost of college, a mortgage or other financial products.

Even better, the CFPB is getting real results for consumers. Not only has it fined five big credit card companies and refunded $1.5 billion to consumers for some banks’ unfair practices, it is also handling consumer complaints for credit cards, credit bureaus, mortgages, payday loans, debt collectors and more.
