“Sell by," "best by," "use by," "freshest on," "expires on," and the rest of the range of date labels you can find on food products are often arbitrary and confusing to understand.

Revising our outdated date labeling system would help keep food out of landfills, save resources like water and energy, help us feed more people and reduce climate-warming emissions.
