Nearly 400,000 Honda lawnmowers and pressure washers recalled
More than 2,000 incidents reported involving camshaft failures, which have caused injuries
American Honda has recalled about 391,800 lawnmowers and pressure washers because their engines can malfunction. Specifically, when someone is pulling the starter rope, poorly manufactured engine camshafts can retract without warning, which can cause an injury, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Thursday.
Honda has received 2,197 complaints involving camshaft failures. Seven people have been injured; the types of injuries weren’t provided.
People who own lawnmowers and pressure washers with the recalled engines should stop using them and call an authorized Honda Power Equipment dealer to make an appointment for an inspection and repair at no charge. The recall involves Honda HRN216 and HRX217K6 lawnmowers and GCV170/200 G5B pressure washer engines.
The affected lawnmowers sold for $550 to $1,100 at Honda Power Equipment dealers, Ace Hardware, Home Depot, Lowes, Northern Tool and agricultural and rental stores nationwide. They were sold from May 2022 to June 2023.
The affected pressure washers sold for $370 to $550 at Home Depot, Lowes and other stores nationwide from June 2022 to August 2023.
