On Saturday March 23, MASSPIRG’s Janet Domenitz spoke on a panel at the 2024 SECON Conference at Harvard Kennedy School. The panel, entitled “Turnout 2024: Expanding Ballot Access ahead of America’s Big Decision,” included Pattye Comfort, Director of the League of Women Voters/MA, Stephanie Thomas, Secretary of State, Connecticut, and Marisol Santiago, Policy and Organizing Director at MassVOTE. A lively discussion had several takeaways, including
1-to build democracy for our future, we need to get youth registered and voting
2-’big decisions’ in any given election year should serve to build momentum for all elections, in every year
3-barriers to registration and voting still exist, and we need dismantle all of them to achieve participation across the board
MASSPIRG is currently working to modernize the ways in which we register and vote.
