The IRS now is offering a “pilot”  or “test” version of “free” (really free) tax filing for an estimated 19 million taxpayers (who file simple returns in this, its first tax season). Direct File fully launches on Tuesday, March 12,  in 12 states, IRS website has more.

 Join the IRS Direct File pilot! Yes, it’s really from the IRS so it’s an historic new service! Tell all your friends that if they file simple returns; this is for you! There is no more need for a paid tax prep company for simple returns. Learn more on the IRS Web site.
