MASSPIRG Executive Director Janet Domenitz released the following statement on the Plastic Bag Ban bill released today from The State Senate

“Over the course of the last decade, more than 125 of the Commonwealth’s 351 cities and towns have taken action to ban the use of single use plastic bags. To put it simply, that is because there is too much waste —-in our neighborhoods, our parks, our playgrounds, and our environment. We use plastic bags for an average of 5 minutes, dispose of them, and they litter, clog our waterways, and degrade our oceans. We can go back to a future with no single use plastic bags, and thanks to Senate President Karen Spilka, chief sponsor Sen. Jamie Eldridge, and the rest of the MA Senate, we took a big step towards that future today with the bill they released to ban single use plastic bags. A timely move as it is something to be thankful for in this holiday season.”
