BALTIMORE – The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) issued a Boil Water Advisory (BWA) for portions of West Baltimore, advising that drinking water is boiled before consumption.
Maryland PIRG Foundation director Emily Scarr released the following statement:
“No one in Baltimore should have to worry that their family could get sick from the water coming out of their tap. The boil-water advisory is an all-too-often reminder that more needs to be done to protect our water. E. coli can be life-threatening. We should be deeply troubled that our infrastructure is vulnerable to contamination. We are grateful for Mayor Scott’s fast response, and hope the city and state will quickly update and improve our water infrastructure to prevent future contamination.”
Environment Maryland Research and Policy Center’s Clean Water director John Rumpler released the following statement:
“We should treat our water as the precious life-giving resources it is. Thanks to the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Baltimore has access to millions of dollars to update and improve our outdated wastewater infrastructure, which should dramatically reduce the risk of contamination from E. coli and other hazards in our drinking water.”
