Youth vote a major factor in upcoming election

If you're between the ages of 18 and 30, you've been in the news a lot lately. Young voters can have a big impact this election, and here's how.

The Millenial generation (roughly those between the ages of 18 and 29), make up nearly ¼ of the electorate, and they’re becoming the center of attention this campaign season.

The youth vote turned out in record numbers in 2008, but that spike was also part of a longer trend of increased youth participation since 2000.  And it’s made a difference.  Politicians are talking more and more about the issues that matter to young voters, from student loan debt to climate change.

We made the politicians listen to us.  And now is the time to make sure they’re still listening.

The deadline to register to vote in Maryland is October 16.  If you have a Maryland driver’s license or another ID issued by the Motor Vehicles Association, you can register entirely online here.

If you don’t have a driver’s license or other MVA ID, you can still register!  You just need your Social Security Number.  You just have to print out a registration application (here) and send it in to either the State Board of Elections or to your county’s Board of Elections.

Then look out for you Voter Notification Card in the mail!  If you don’t get one within three weeks of sending in your application, check in with your local Board of Elections.  You can also check whether you’re registered here

And just like that, you’re a registered voter, ready to make politicians listen to you.
