280 more school districts are getting clean buses
Millions of kids will breathe cleaner air thanks to the EPA's latest Clean School Bus Program grants.
Every day, millions of children ride diesel buses to school that pollute the air and can make kids sick. Thankfully, that’s starting to change as districts switch to clean, electric school buses.
In a big boost to kids’ health, the Environmental Protection Agency just announced grants to 280 school districts across 37 states to purchase clean buses and charging infrastructure. Seven million children in these school districts will benefit from cleaner air around their schools.
The funding comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law of 2021. Our network advocated for $5 billion for clean, electric school buses and while Congress opted to keep half of the funding open to dirtier, non-electric buses, districts overwhelming are choosing the cleanest electric models. This round, more than 97% of buses to be purchased with the EPA grants will be electric.
