Tell Peloton: Manufacturers shouldn’t charge fees on secondhand sales

To Peloton President/CEO Peter Stern:

We urge you to stop interfering with the secondhand market by imposing unnecessary fees on buyers and sellers of your products. Your $95 activation fee on secondhand Peloton bikes and treadmills is an overreach that undermines consumer ownership and discourages the sustainable practice of purchasing secondhand items.

Your customers expect to truly own the products they buy–not to have ownership redefined by added costs and restricted functionality. Practices such as yours hurt consumers by making secondhand options less affordable and accessible. They also harm the environment by disincentivizing reuse, contributing to growing e-waste, and promoting a culture of disposability.

As a leader in the fitness industry, you have an opportunity to set an example by supporting sustainable consumer practices and respecting ownership rights. Remove the activation fee, let the owners of your products decide their resale value, and join the movement for fairer, more sustainable markets.
