“Metamorphic Gear is an upcycler of used and unwanted materials such as sails, truck tarpaulin and climbing rope. I intercept the different materials that are destined for the landfill to create stylish bags and accessories. I have created an extensive triple cleaning process that has all the materials ready for creating new unique items. Sewing and assembly of the finished goods is all done in Seattle and handmade. When you think about it, by using materials already made, we lessen production of new materials, meaning even less landfill in the end.”
What’s the problem with fast fashion?
“Fast fashion is a race to the bottom. We are hurting everyone and everything along the supply chain. We need to pivot away from the instant gratification of something new to finding gratification in how long something lasts in our life.”
How do you hope to see the fashion industry change?
“I would like to see the industry as a whole truly take charge of the problems they create in the world and be the change makers to help the planet and people.”
