Agricultural Right to Repair clears important hurdle in Colorado

Colorado farmers are one step closer to being to having the right to repair their equipment. The Consumer Right to Repair Agricultural Equipment Act, sponsored by Colorado Sens. Nick Hinrichsen and Janice Marchman, passed through the Senate Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee Thursday on a bipartisan, 4-3 vote.

The bill now moves to the Colorado Senate floor. Senate President Steve Fenberg is a vocal supporter of the bill, and Gov. Polis is reportedly excited to see the bill on his desk and sign it into law.

In a statement on the successful committee vote, CoPIRG Executive Director Danny Katz said, “just like car owners and wheelchair users, which both have right-to-repair protections because of state laws, farmers should have access to the stuff they need to fix their equipment.”
