Tell your U.S. senators: Ban polystyrene foam
Long after we’re gone, flimsy fragments of polystyrene foam coffee cups will drift around the world — blowing out of landfills, floating through rivers and into oceans. Nothing we use for a moment’s convenience should pollute our environment for centuries to come.
Polystyrene foam is one of the worst forms of plastic pollution. It’s time that we support the Farewell to Foam Act and ban it for good.
Plastic waste litters our communities, pollutes our water, and threatens our health. And of all this waste, polystyrene foam is among the worst. It never decomposes and breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces — pieces that could contaminate our water supply and float through our rivers and oceans. Not only that, but styrene, a chemical in polystyrene, has been dubbed a possible carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer.
By supporting the Farewell to Foam Act, we can reduce the amount of wasteful plastic polluting our communities and environment.
