Matt directs PIRG’s public health campaigns, including campaigns to address the growing threat of antibiotic-resistant infections by stopping the overuse of antibiotics in animal agriculture, and to reverse the alarming increase in teen nicotine addiction by banning tobacco products marketed to kids. Matt is an avid outdoorsman and loves to play the drums and harmonica.

STATEMENT: Juul to pay nearly $440 million to settle probe into alleged kid-focused marketing 

Juul Labs Inc., a major e-cigarette company, agreed Tuesday to pay 33 states plus Puerto Rico more than $438 million to end a joint multistate investigation into its allegedly teen-friendly marketing practices. It's welcome news, but Juul is only one company. Several other vape companies continue to sell flavored products that appeal to kids.

Statement: Congress aims to give FDA authority to regulate synthetic nicotine products

The House of Representatives is expected to vote Wednesday on a sweeping omnibus appropriations bill. If it passes in its current form, then the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) would gain the authority to regulate synthetic nicotine products in the same way that they regulate tobacco products.
