Advocates celebrate EPA’s investment in toxic waste cleanup, call for more funding

Advocates celebrate the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) investment of $1 billion in the cleanup of toxic Superfund sites, using money from the newly reinstated ‘polluter pays’ tax on hazardous chemicals, which passed in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. However, to fully clean up all of the sites on the EPA's list, more funding will be needed that should come from a similar polluter-pays tax on the petroleum industry.
