Oregonians are struggling with the rising costs of health care. Families spend nearly a quarter of their household budget on health care, growing by over 30% in the last ten years.

Big hospital systems are making things worse by tacking on hidden and unjustified medical fees to patients’ bills. These unexpected and expensive fees, also known as “facility fees,” are often a charge for simply walking in the door — not for actually being treated. Insurance companies often don’t cover these fees, forcing patients to pay for them out of pocket.
