Peloton should stop charging fees on secondhand sales

Support our work for consumer rights, sustainability, and products designed to last.

Unlike the appliances our grandparents relied on for generations, today’s products are built to break–losing features and usability after software updates stop. When we don’t truly own what we buy, everything becomes disposable, keeping us stuck in a cycle of buying, tossing, and repeating. The average American throws out 4.9 pounds of trash every day. That’s nearly 1,800 pounds each year.

Corporate policies such as Peloton’s $95 activation fee on secondhand bikes illustrate this problem, driving up waste and costs while eroding ownership rights. We deserve better than a world where nothing’s built to last.

Together, we can reduce e-waste and keep the right to own what we’ve bought. We can make sure products are repairable and designed to last.
