The U.S. Supreme Court today, by a 5-4 margin, sided with American Express in Ohio v. American Express, with Justice Clarence Thomas writing the majority opinion. Mike Landis, U.S. PIRG Litigation Project Director, released this statement:

“We are disappointed in today’s decision from the U.S. Supreme Court in Ohio v. American Express. The Court’s decision makes life more difficult for consumers. Despite today’s outcome, we encourage state and federal regulators to continue bringing necessary litigation to vigorously enforce our nation’s antitrust laws.”
