MASSPIRG urges Congress to protect consumers
Joining consumer advocates across the country and here in Massachusetts, MASSPIRG called on Congress to protect consumers as part of Consumer Advocacy Week.
Joining consumer advocates across the country and here in Massachusetts, MASSPIRG called on Congress to protect consumers as part of Consumer Advocacy Week. We urged members of our Congressional delegation to:
- Prevent payment fraud and theft: Amend the Electronic Funds Transfer Act to ensure consumers are protected from fraud, theft, and errors in older payment forms, like bank wire transfers and EBT cards, as well as newer, faster payment forms, like person-to-person (p2p) payment apps.
- Rein in excessive and costly overdraft and non-sufficient fund (NSF) fee: Pass the Overdraft Protection Act/Stop Overdraft Profiteering Act to adopt common-sense limits on overdraft and non-sufficient fund (NSF) fees.
- Restore the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) authority to protect consumers: Restore the authority of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to fight scams, return funds to victims, and deter wrongdoers.
