PFAS coalition members meet with the lead sponsor of the bill to protect public health from toxic PFAS.
PFAS are a class of over 12,000 chemicals that help products resist heat, water, grease and stains. The problem is that PFAS can be toxic at very low levels, increasing risk of cancer, immunosuppression, birth defects, colitis, and other diseases.
If passed, An Act to protect Massachusetts public health from PFAS, (SB 1356, HB 2197) will phase out PFAS in most consumer products, cut industrial discharges of PFAS to water, and set up a fund to help communities test and treat for PFAs in drinking water, soil, and groundwater. Passage of the bill will significantly reduce our exposure to toxic PFAS and prevent contamination from getting worse.
