FTC wins: Funeral home now has to post prices online

The FTC has won a court order that requires a national cremation company to give out more information online. The FTC explains:

The FTC said in a lawsuit that the company used online ads to make it look like they performed cremations when they didn’t; made it look like they were local when they weren’t; and gave grieving people lowball quotes by phone —when the real price was much higher.

We don’t like it anytime that consumers are taken advantage of. Grieving consumers are often targets of pricing schemes. So, we’re supporting an FTC proposal to require all funeral services companies to give out more information online, but this court order is a good first step.

“There aren’t many times when it’s more difficult to comparison price shop than when you’re planning an unexpected funeral; ” learn more in Our guide to knowing your funeral shopping rights.
