Beyond Plastic

At ‘Massachusetts Day,’ lawmakers joined us to talk zero waste, clean energy and more

In particular, we got to talk with state Sen. Cindy Creem on how we can win the Bigger, Better Bottle Bill for our state.

Chairman Jeffrey Roy and Senator Marc Pacheco join MASSPIRG, lawmakers and environmental organizations to celebrate passage of new climate law.

Amid exciting progress on major public interest issues here in the Bay State, MASSPIRG advocates and organizers had an opportunity to talk directly with lawmakers about how to keep the momentum going.

On Oct. 6, staff with MASSPIRG and our partner groups joined elected officials and advocacy leaders to strategize about building a cleaner, healthier, safer Massachusetts. Among the highlights: We heard from Steve Koczela, president of MassINC Polling Group, about key indicators of where voters stand on certain issues; and we spoke with state Sen. Cindy Creem, longtime legislative champion of public interest issues in Boston, about passing much-needed updates to our state’s Bottle Bill.

“We were thrilled to connect with our state leaders on specific issues such as the Better Bottle Bill and the campaign to transition the Bay State to 100% clean, renewable energy,” said MASSPIRG State Director Janet Domenitz.

This past summer, MASSPIRG canvassers knocked on more than 13,000 doors and gathered nearly 2,000 petitions to build support for passing the Better Bottle Bill.
