Mayor Scott Funds Fair Elections
This morning, the Baltimore Board of Estimates included $2 million in funding for the Fair Election Fund, responding to calls from Maryland PIRG and our allies at Common Cause Maryland, Jews United for Justice, and the entire Baltimore Fair Elections coalition. We thank Mayor Brandon Scott and the rest of the Board, as well as Cuoncilman Kristerfer Burnett for supporting this critical program to reduce the influence of wealthy and corporate donors and empower everyday Baltimoreans in our elections.
The City Council voted in 2019 to create a Fair Elections program after authorization from the voters in 2018. To ensure its success in 2024, the Mayor and Council President need to finalize the Fair Elections Commission and the program needs to be properly funded.
