Gov. Moore signs improved ballot processing into law
Democracy advocates and legislative leaders join Gov. Moore as he signs a ballot processing bill into law.
On Monday, Gov. Wes Moore signed a ballot processing bill into law. The new law updates and improves the voting processes by enabling elections staff to begin processing (not counting) mail-in ballots in advance of election day; requiring precinct- level reporting for all ballots; and enabling voters to correct an error by adding their signature on a ballot envelope if it was left blank. The bill also changed the date of the 2024 primary election to not conflict with major holidays.
A similar bill passed in 2022, but was then vetoed by then Gov. Larry Hogan.
