Tell car companies: Don’t sell our driving data

Dear Executives of Honda, Kia, Subaru, Hyundai and Mitsubishi,

Insurance companies’ personalized rate programs can be great for consumers. What isn’t great for consumers is when our driving data is sold to insurance companies without our knowledge, and when our data ends up with third-party data brokers.

The consumer shouldn’t have to worry that their car’s computers or connected apps are sharing their data with other entities. Your company should commit to not sharing or selling consumer data for anything other than what consumers are expecting — a functional car and a safe driving experience.
