Today, the Food & Environment Reporting Network (FERN) published an article on The Great Pollen Meltdown — the trend of heatwaves impacting plant growth during reproduction, which impacts pollinators and farmers’ ability to produce enough food. “Every seed, grain, and fruit that we eat is a direct product of pollination,” explains biochemist Gloria Muday of North Carolina’s Wake Forest University in the article. Next week, as part of National Pollinators Week 2022, we’ll be highlighting more of the threats to pollinators — and by extension, our food — and ways you can take action to solve the problem.
