On Thursday, along with partnering consumer, environmental, and environmental organizations, we publicly launched our Safer Cleaner Energy citizen outreach campaign

We at Illinois PIRG plan to reach 6,000 Peoples Gas customer households and have 3,000 one-on-one, face-to-face conversations about the Illinois Commerce Commission’s (ICC) investigation into the Peoples Gas pipe replacement program. We’re calling on the ICC to overhaul the program to actually make us safer while costing less and supporting the transition to clean energy.

Through our canvass and along with our partners, we plan to collect over 5,000 public comments in the investigation.

Thursday’s rally featured brief speeches from Damarian Miller, an Illinois PIRG canvasser, AARP Illinois State President Al Hollenbeck and CUB Illinois Communications Director Jim Chilsen.

The event was covered by multiple Chicago news stations, helping spread our message to more Peoples Gas customers.

If one of our canvassers comes to your door, I hope you’ll talk to them and get involved!
