Learn the basics of organizing, and put these skills to work to cast a spotlight on social problems and help run our campaigns.
ABOUT PIRG
Our mission is to advocate for the public interest—to speak out for a healthier, safer world in which we’re freer to pursue our own individual well-being and the common good.
Whether it’s working to stop the overuse of antibiotics in agriculture, addressing our country’s plastic waste crisis, or alerting people to threats in the marketplace, the problems we work on aren’t progressive or conservative. They’re just problems that our country shouldn’t tolerate any longer.
We have a 50-year track record of winning laws and policies that make a real difference in people’s lives. Take clean air for example. Deaths from air pollution dropped nearly in half between 1990 and 2010. The laws and policies that we won to limit pollution from power plants, cars and other sources helped save tens of thousands of lives.
About the Internship
We’re looking for students who care about solving the problems that America faces. As an intern with PIRG, you’ll help us educate and engage people on the important issues we’re working on. Whether it’s by getting our issues into the media, helping to grow our coalitions or organizing events, you’ll be helping us build the public support it takes to win.
If you agree that America has more problems than we should tolerate, but also understand that there are plenty of solutions to these problems that we should be putting to use, then you should apply for an internship with PIRG.
We’re looking for students who care deeply about solving these issues and are ready to make a difference now.
Responsibilities
You’ll learn how to analyze problems ranging from public health, to consumer protection, to transportation — all while pushing for smart solutions and building the public support it takes to win.
- You’ll work side-by-side with one of our organizers, learning the ropes.
- You’ll attend briefings and trainings to learn even more about our issues and gain organizing skills.
An internship with PIRG is one of the best ways to gain experience for a career in political advocacy. Not only will you get the training and experience you need, but we hire our most talented and committed interns to join our associate program when they graduate.

We’re hiring for positions nationwide. If you’re flexible, you can apply for multiple locations. We accept internship applications on a rolling basis.
