Data brokers are shadowy third party companies that collect, buy and sell people’s data online – including sensitive information like home addresses, real-time location, and health conditions. Data brokers pose immediate dangers to consumers, military members, and law enforcement, and their business practices heavily contribute to the rise in identity theft, fraud and hyper-targeted scams that all consumers face today. There are hundreds of data brokers active in the U.S. – and they’re all virtually unregulated.
