NYC e-waste beach cleanup

New Yorkers gather at the beach to cool down, chillout, and appreciate the coastline. Unfortunately, our beautiful beaches are being polluted with a new type of trash–disposable vapes.

Join U.S. PIRG, Environment New York, and Surfrider for a beach cleanup to help raise awareness about the harms of disposable vapes and make a positive impact on our coast.

We’ll be collecting trash at Rockaway Beach and counting the different types of trash we collect, including vapes.

Unfortunately, vape waste is becoming more common as the trash that litters our beaches and waterways. It seems we’ve gone from bad to worse. While cigarette pollution takes up to 10 years to degrade, disposable vapes are non-biodegradable. Surfrider has found vape waste on our NYC beaches has doubled in the last 3 years.
