Farmers across Illinois didn’t think twice when they were offered unlimited amounts of free fertilizer. Little did they know that the sludge they were using across thousands of acres of farmland was contaminating both crops and drinking water with PFAS — toxic forever chemicals linked to cancer.

Despite the extensive health risks that come from long-term PFAS exposure, these chemicals are still widely unregulated. Eleven states — including Connecticut — have enacted partial bans on these forever chemicals. Now, we’re urging federal agencies to pass more comprehensive bans on PFAS chemicals.
