Tell McDonald’s: Stop using meat raised with medically important antibiotics

McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski,

Antibiotics are an incredible feat of science that have changed the world. But antibiotics in meat production are contributing to a rise to superbugs that can’t easily be treated with antibiotics.

The United Nations now predicts that 2 million people will die from antibiotic-resistant infections by 2050, many of which are entirely treatable, like skin infections caused by staph, urinary tract infections caused by E. coli, and foodborne infections caused by Salmonella.

McDonald’s has signaled that it understands the severity of the situation with its commitment to reduce the use of medically important antibiotics in its beef supply chain. Now, McDonald’s needs to follow through on that commitment to make sure life-saving antibiotics remain effective.
