
Product recalls jump in 2022
Our analysis found consumer product recalls jumped 22% and new injuries continue to occur months after initial recall.
A new CoPIRG Foundation report analyzing consumer product recall data found a 33% jump in recalls from 2021 to 2022. 85 recalls involved products for babies and children or pose a risk for babies and children. Other categories with large numbers of recalls were furniture/furnishings/decor, kitchen, electronics and clothing.
Leading reasons for recalls were risk of fire, risk of poisoning, choking hazard and excessive levels of lead.
