Halfway through RTD’s Zero Fare month, organizations launch Transit Worker Appreciation Day
Make sure you thank your bus driver today as we hit the halfway mark for the Zero Fare program.
Halfway into a month of free rides on all RTD buses and trains, a coalition of organizations including CoPIRG, the Denver Streets Partnership, NRDC, GreenLatinos, and more are launching Transit Appreciation Day.
On Monday, August 15, the organizations are asking everyone in the community to thank a transit worker, including their bus drivers, train operators or other support staff.
For the last few years, a shortage of transit workers, including drivers and operators, have limited RTD’s ability to scale transit service back up.
Through events at stations and outreach on social media, the organizations are working to ensure transit workers know how much riders and the rest of the community appreciate the critical role they play.
“Have you thanked a bus driver today?” asked Danny Katz, CoPIRG’s executive director. “All buses and trains are free this month so you can hop on to say thanks even if you don’t plan to ride. You can also share a positive message on social media. Our ability to meet our regions air pollution, mobility and safety goals are dependent on improving our transit system. Show your support for transit today and thank a transit worker.”
