Beyond Plastic

CALPIRG-backed law goes into effect, reducing plastic pollution

Today, the CALPIRG-backed law AB 1276, which expands California’s plastic-straws-upon-request law to include other single-use food accessories, went into effect in resturants and food service establishments across the state.

Today, the CALPIRG-backed law AB 1276, which expands California’s plastic-straws-upon-request law to include other single-use food accessories, went into effect in resturants and food service establishments across the state. Now, utensils for takeout and delivery can only be given out if they are specifically requested. This is great news if you are one of the countless Californians with a drawer full of unused plastic utensils from deliveries. By eliminating some of the most unnecessarily single-use plastic items, we can move our state beyond plastic and protect our streets and ocean from pollution.
