Health groups ask Sen. Harris and Sen. Feinstein to protect emergency workers in next stimulus

Oakland-- CALPIRG, American Academy of Pediatrics- CA, SF Bay Area Physicians for Social Responsibility, and several other groups sent a letter to Senator Harris and Senator Feinstein on July 2nd thanking them for supporting the Medical Supply Transparency and Delivery Act, which would establish central, transparent coordination of the medical supply chain during the COVID-19 crisis. The groups are also asking Sen. Harris and Sen. Feinstein to urge Senate leadership to include the legislation in the next coronavirus stimulus package. The letter comes after health officials expressed serious concern over continued shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE) amid rising cases and a lack of federal support.

SACRAMENTO — California received an F when it comes to government spending transparency, according to “Following the Money 2014: How the 50 States Rate in Providing Online Access to Government Spending Data,” the fifth annual report of its kind by the California Public Interest Research Group Education Fund.

Offshore Tax Havens Cost Average California Taxpayer $1,265 a Year, California Small Business $3,524

With Tax Day approaching, it’s a good time to be reminded of where our tax dollars are going.   CALPIRG released a new study which revealed that the average California taxpayer in 2012 would have to shoulder an extra $1265 in taxes to make up for the revenue lost due to the use of offshore tax havens by corporations and wealthy individuals.
