Toxic threats

Tell the EPA: Protect communities from toxic trains

Carol Highsmith | Public Domain

The derailment of a train carrying toxic chemicals in East Palestine, Ohio released large quantities of a cancer-causing chemical into the environment, polluting communities all around the accident site. Across the United States, facilities have shown that preventing or reducing the severity of accidents like this is possible when they switch to less acutely hazardous processes or chemicals. When inherently safer technology is available, companies should be shifting to it as quickly as possible to prevent and mitigate the impacts of disasters like the one in East Palestine, Ohio. Send a message to the EPA now, asking them to strengthen their accident prevention programs.
