Public Comment in Support of Proposal to List Chlorpyrifos as a Toxic Air Contaminant
CALPIRG today joined Californians for Pesticide Reform and 116 other groups in support of a proposal by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation to list Chlorpyrifos as a toxic air contaminant. The evidence that chlorpyrifos threatens childhood brain development is clear.
However, merely calling chlorpyrifos a toxic air contaminant is not enough to protect public health. The Department of Pesticide Regulation should take steps to prevent further chlorpyrifos use altogether; by cancelling current registrations of products containing chlorpyrifos and suspending any new registration of chlorpyrifos containing products.
