Governor’s Executive Order is a No Brainer for Safe, Secure Elections

CALPIRG

Statement by Emily Rusch, executive director of CALPIRG:

“Governor Newsom’s Executive Order today expanding mail-in ballots to every registered voter is a no brainer for safe, secure elections in November.

We applaud the Governor for working with the Secretary of State and the legislature to plan ahead for the challenges we’ll face in November.

Expanding vote-by-mail to all Californians, while maintaining critical in-person voting options, is the right thing to do to ensure that every voter has the option to vote without risking their own health or the health of their neighbors.

We urge the Governor and Secretary to maintain a critical base of in-person voting locations to prevent overcrowding and the disenfranchisement of eligible voters who are unable or unwilling to use a mail-in ballot. We also urge the legislature to allocate adequate funding to educate voters about the changes they’ll experience this November.”
